Cruise Control

Posted on: Friday, June 26, 2015

I woke up way early today at 4am for a flight to Dallas to visit my family.  This flight with Southwest is extremely cold, and evidently I’m not wearing enough clothes this time.  I know that it will be so hot in Texas.   The airport lines at Oakland intl was like JFK this morning, luckily I was early by accident.  Perhaps it was a combination of things: Father’s day weekend, the Golden State Warriors just won their the final, increased security, and it’s summer vacation time.  I wish I was taking a real vacation too.  Somewhere sunny with a breeze and quiet.

I have been busy every minute of everyday so I haven’t had much time to sit down for some quiet time.  Even during my short road trips to Big Sur and Tahoe seemed to fly by way fast, thank goodness for cruise control.  That’s what my life’s been feeling like flying by on cruise control.  I still have not finished booking the rest of our itinerary for Thailand, yikes…that is coming soon huh.  I still don’t have my return ticket back to the US since I was supposed to go to Mount Everest after, but I’m still undecided at the moment.

The worse news ever for me this month was getting attacked by bugs in Dallas, I have over 100 bites on my body.  Notes to anyone visiting Texas, put on all the extra strenght bug spray you can find.   That city has been growing rapidly, and has changed quite a bit since I left 5 years ago.  But I think I will buy plane tickets for my family to visit me in California instead.  I’m a bit traumatized by this last visit.

Here are some photos of nice backdrops recently.

Beautiful things in life inspires me. It’s been awhile since I painted anything. I bought new watercolor paint, but my days are filled with meetings, running my business and balancing my personal life. Soon I will have a workshop to answer all business questions and maybe help others out with their business.
I’m no expert at camera equipments and techniques, so I’m hoping not a lot of people will ask me about that. I will answer what I can. I use the most basic camera and lenses to get what I need (Canon Mark 3, 50mm, 85mm, 100mm, 24-105mm, 70-200mm). I tried out different lenses that people recommended, but always stuck to the same ones that I really like, I think that I use the 50mm the most and 70-200mm at weddings. I use Photoshop & Lightroom to edit my photos, and I do very minimal editing. For fun things, I shoot with a Contax 645 with 80mm lens. I really adore the soft vintage look that film brings, and I can just shoot for fun not having to check back at a digital screen to see if I got the shot right or not.

Speaking of inspiration, I was in Santa Barbara last weekend and the scenery was definitely beautiful. It was my first visit there. I was grateful for the incredible hosts Eve and Rich, they are angels on earth.  Some random pictures from my phone 🙂
